Welcome to our Travel Log!

A few months ago, we made the tough decision to pack up our lives in California and make a cross-country move to Washington, DC. Somewhere along the way, we realized that it would be a great opportunity to take a little time and see some of the world. And so now we are embarking on a three-month travel adventure.

We’ll be visiting eight countries on three continents with plans to see as much as we can - from the Great Wall to mountain gorillas. With so many places in the world to see, narrowing it down to something manageable wasn’t easy. But in the end, we chose places that neither of us had visited before and places that would be difficult to visit with only one or two weeks of vacation time. We’ll be doing some traveling on our own, and some with family and friends who will join us along the way.

We are so excited for all of it and are going to do our best to keep you posted on our travels via this website. So check back every now and again for updates and stories from our trip. We won't likely be posting what we have for lunch each day, but maybe the most striking moment or experience in a particular place, hopefully with a photo or two.

We’ll return to the US on April 1st and will make our way to DC for whatever lies in store for us there. But until then, we’re taking the long way to Washington…

Our Itinerary

Three months sounds like a lot. So why does it seem so hard to squeeze everything in?
Here's where we are going and a little bit about what we will be doing.

New Zealand - Jan 5 to Jan 29
- We've got ourselves a Winnebago! (Actually, a "spaceship," to be exact... more on that later)
- On the North Island: Auckland, Bay of Islands, Rotorua and Tongariro National Park, among other things
- South Island highlights: sea kayaking in Abel Tasman, hiking the Franz Josef Glacier and trips on the Milford and Doubtful Sounds
- Lots of pretending that we are hanging with Gandalf and Frodo...

Cambodia and Vietnam - Jan 29 to Feb 15
- Meeting up with Jesse Fourt and Christy Utter in Phnom Penh - we can't wait to see them! - and spending a few days at the amazing Ankor Wat in Siem Reap
- Taking a boat trip down the Mekong Delta to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon)
- Logging some beach time as we make our way north in Vietnam
- Exploring Hanoi and taking a cruise to see the karst islands in Halong Bay

China - Feb 15 to Mar 2
- Landing in Hong Kong and all its cosmopolitan craziness
- Visiting the karst mountains in Guilin and biking in Yangshuo
- Reuniting with Christy and Jesse in Shanghai and journeying with them to Xi'an
- Staying with Thaddeus Law in Beijing to see the sights, eat Peking Duck, and make a trip to The Great Wall - it will be very chilly, but we're tough!

Egypt - Mar 3 to Mar 10
- Mom and Dad Moore meet us in Cairo. Woohoo!
- Taking a boat cruise up the Nile to Aswan to see some of the pyramids and tombs that we've heard they have there

Uganda, Rwanda, and Tanzania - Mar 10 to April 1
- Whitewater rafting and a little volunteer project in Jinja, Uganda
- Tracking mountain gorillas in Rwanda and exploring some of the country's recent history in Kigali
- Tanzania safari to the Serengeti and Ngorogoro Crater, amongst other stops... maybe see the last snows on Kilimanjaro?
- Spending the final days of our travels relaxing on the beach in Zanzibar

Journey back to the US. Pick up the car in Colorado and start driving to DC...
